Metos galley equipment onboard Smyril Line’s new RoRo vessel Skipanes

Smyril Line has taken delivery of its new RoRo freight vessel Skipanhes, built by CIMC Raffles in China. Designed for year-round operations in the demanding conditions of the North Atlantic, the new vessel is equipped with Metos galley equipment to support daily catering and crew operations onboard.

Skipanes was delivered to Faroese shipping company Smyril Line on August 2026. The 189.5-metre vessel is the first of two new purpose-built RoRo vessels and offers 3,300 lane metres of freight capacity. It has been designed specifically for demanding North Atlantic operations.

Equipment for everyday life onboard

Metos Marine participated in the project as an equipment supplier in cooperation with its local partner, Hong Kong Great International.

The Metos delivery covers a broad range of equipment for the vessel’s galley, serving and crew areas. It includes cooking equipment, food preparation equipment, cold storage, dishwashing, waste handling, beverage equipment and serving solutions.

The delivery also includes cold cabinets and equipment for food and beverage service, as well as 23 cabin refrigerators for the crew accommodation.

With a crew of 20 onboard, reliable galley equipment plays an important role in supporting smooth everyday routines throughout the vessel’s year-round operations.

Built for demanding conditions

Skipanes has been developed for the challenging weather and sea conditions of the North Atlantic, with reliability and efficient operation taken into account throughout the vessel. The ship is also methanol-ready and equipped with a battery system and shore power connection.

The project is an example of Metos Marine’s involvement in international newbuild projects and of the cooperation required between shipowners, shipyards, local partners and equipment suppliers to support everyday life and operations at sea.
